Need indications to build a self sustain fresh water aquarium for a 1 gallon crystal bottle. Any help is welcome.

Some Java moss, declorinated water and natural light. Regular water changes and you are ready to go.

If it's for a school project, or have any choice of species, then go with ONE cherry shrimp or ghost shrimp.

I tired the java moss and snails approach but ended with much algae. IMO snails would be the best choice for self sustaining as you don't need to give them any special care (that is pond snails or common rams horn).

Sorry to dissappoint everyone, there isn't such thing as self sustaining aquarium.
Self sustaining tank should be able to run (once setup) without any outside help, thus self-sustaining.

No that is not true, there are self sustaining fish tanks out there. Usually is a little bit bigger and has to be out side in the elements, no feeding is neccessary,no physical water changes(that is what rain is for) , sunlight will provide light and nature will provide food in the form of insect larvae, algae ect,ect . It can be done ,but it is quite boring.

I agree that a self-contained and sustained aquarium is not possible. Won't the food sources eventually run out? For example, the snails eat all the algae. The snails die from no food. Then the plants run out of nutrients because there are no snails to produce waste.
