HELP! I woke up this morning and my tank was REALLY CLOUDY! I have had the tank for over 3 months now. One fish is on the verge of dying, as if the water caused him to become stressed out overnight (gills are shredded, color fading, and eyes are near black) What do I do! I did a 75% water change and it helped a little bit, and I added some stuff to clear cloudy water, as well as some stresszyme. Other than that, what do you all reccomend, or what do you think happened in a 24 hour span?

First mistake, you added chemicals, 2nd you added anything before simply testing the water, which is the FIRST thing you should do whenever problems arise. The water change was a good start, and should have been the only thing you did, so without readings on ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates can't help ya much. Fine won't cut it either.

Well there was a reason why your water went so cloudy. Its a 75 gallon tank right? Likely it was a bacterial bloom that could have been caused by several things, such as a dead fish gone unnoticed.
Did you clean out the filter reccently?

Your dying fish was likely beaten up, possibly because it became weak from the stressful environment. Adding stuff to de-cloud the water wont help unless you know WHY the water went cloudy in the first place.

Keep doing 20-40% water changes daily or every other day and TEST YOUR WATER! The best way for us to help you is if you give ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings.

yes i recently did clean out the filter? did i do something wrong?

What kind of filter are you using and how did you clean it? Describe your setup and your recent actions as completely as possible, and then perhaps we can give more detailed advice.

In the short term, continuing with water changes is a good idea.

Hopefuly you didn't clean your filter in chlorinated water.... Check you ph... Do you have gravel or an UGF in your tank...

What are your ammonia and nitrite levels? They are the the number one thing to check when things like this happen.

PumaWard: glad to see you back. You are quite correct in focusing on the ammonia and nitrite readings; if they are off then there was probably something that went wrong in the filter cleaning.

Hopefully we can get an update soon to see exactly what is going on here.

Ok, last week I did my normal weekly water change, and did a my monthly filter cleaning. When I clean the filter I completely take it apart and spray the tubings, the ammonia anc carbon packs, and the sponge down with water....from a garden hose....i dont have anywhere else in my home where I can clean this type of filter...its a Aquaclear 110....however, my ph and ammonia levels appear normal after I did the test....so I am still stuck and I am losing fish by the day, and I dont know what to do....HELP!
