Quick question about an red open brain?

Pretty sure that brains are happier in the sand--if they get enough light there, and won't be buried if you have a digging fish. They have very limited mobility, but in sand, it's better, and they can retract and protect themselves. If you have any fish prone to digging, though, they can easily be buried too far. And, the bottom of the tank is the lowest light level, depending on the depth of the tank and what lights you're running.

I agree with Orion Girl. I keep mine at the bottom of the tank (24inches deep) with 2 x 250W halides and its doing really well. Be careful not to knock against a rock or have a rock fall on it, this will damage the 'flesh' and cause a dying off in that area. Another reason not to keep it on the rock.

This coal also requires a feed now and then, when the tentacles extend and the mouth opens, place a little food in it with a turkey baster.
