Here's a bright idea for those with wooden stands and storage space underneath:

The 'mini' flourescent light costs only $8 or $9....
Looking directly into the cabinet, you can't see the fixture, but the rocker switch is easy to find in the middle of the light fixture. It puts out plenty of light. You can find them at about any hardware store. Flashlights are ok, but this was a good improvement. :)

I see that metal frame across the top there. Is that a DIY stand? I'm thinking about building one myself.

This stand had to have added support. It came with my 80 gallon tank. There's no way I would have trusted the stand without extra supports. Too bad this particular stand was not built properly from the beginning. I suggested in an earlier post not to trust the aquarium stand you have, but if you are sure it's going to be safe with a lot of weight, then go for it.... :)

Hmmm... thats is a good idea. Is that light the type you plug in or is it battery powered?
