Hey All,
I have never posted but trolled these boards for a long time.

Though I am not a newbie to the hobby and have lived with fish for maybe the last 28 years. My home tanks (only 2 now a 110 and a 150) have not been smaller than a 55 gallon in maybe 15 years. And when stocking my tanks I have never limited myself to the fish normally kept in a smaller aquarium.

I am planning on setting up a 12 gallon tank for my office. (one of those Eclipse models). I could really use just some suggestions on what you would do if you were planning the same.

Thanks in advance

I would do a Lake Tanganyikan Shell dweller (preferably multis) tank with black sand, white texas holey rock, and java fern (tucked in the holes of the rock). Active, a little bit different, and ultra low maintainance.

We're using a 10 gal walmart setup, but we've gone with a really nice betta, and we're adding some platies and some corys to finish it off.

For my office tank, I needed a setup that would be low maintenance, and fish that could go a few days iwthout being fed easily. I've had a few different fish in here, and liked them all. With a 10, you could go with a incandescent hood, running PC bulbs, and have lot of plants, which will help the fish make it through long weekends better. I'd consider going with a trio of dwarf puffers--you'd need access to snails, but they are very entertaining little monsters, and and give the tank some personality.

I think I would go for something simple like a school of small tetras. A planted tank could work well with some hardy, low light plants. That could be a very calming, pretty tank. A few amanos in there to help keep the place neat would be great too.

Office tank

I had the 6 gallon Eclipse version at my office for years. It was a good choice of equipment: Small enough to fit in my cube and very quiet. The trickling sound of a filter can annoy some people, but the tank is near silent. I also didn't have much space to keep water for changes, so a few gallon jugs under the desk fit nicely.

I'm sure the 12 gallon would work too. Just make sure the desk is strong enough for that kind of weight and look for space to store your water for changes.

The hardier the species you get the better. Some bosses might not like the fact that you have to fuss over your tank instead of work. You might think you need that water change now, or clean that glass or trim that plant, but your boss might not think so!

I would get a betta and a few otos. I really like the betta I have, he has so much personality!! Lots of fake silk plants if you don't want to deal with real ones would look nice, and the otos will keep it all clean for you
