I recently got myself a bargain 4'x2'x2' tank and 30"x15"x18" sump.
However this is the first time I will have had a tank with a sump and im after some help ref the sump.
The sump is very simpe glass affair with a tower for bio, that drops to the bottom chamber where the water simply goes over one 6" high baffle into the return chamber where I have the pump and heaters.
I have plumber everything in but with zero media in the sump for now (testing plumbing cinnections)
My question is how should I use the sump? I plan to fill the tower with bio balls, or a cheaper altertative (suggestions please) and then im a bit stuck. I would like to get some sponge and carbon in on the filtration process and I cant just drop it into the bottom chamber.
Also how do I work out the best water level to run in the sump? As i said the one baffle is 6" high and at the moment while i test the plumbing i have the return chamber about 5.5" deep with the water flowing over the baffle a treat.
