I bought a 55 gallon tank  and I want to stock it with neon tetras. They will be the main focus of the tank with just a small school of cory cats. How many do you think I should buy? The filter is an aquaclear 70, no live plants but lots of plastic ones. Thanks

25-30 maybe?? I'm just giving my best guess however, I'm not sure if there are any guidelines on a specific setup with such small fish. I would think that would be a safe number though. Sounds cool, I'd like to see some pics when its done!!

I have a planted 60 gallon with 30 cardinal tetras, 10 serpae tetras, 5 broken stripe tetras, 3 cory cats, 5 kuhlie loaches, an SAE, a bristlenose pleco, and I don't know how many shrimp. It is just a bit crowded.
Small tetras are great in large numbers, but I like the look when you add just a few of some contrasting small fish, the serpae tetra is good for it tends to chase the other fish and that makes them school a bit, particularly if the tank has large open areas.

I am not sure. I just wanted to tell you--it sounds like it will be a really pretty tank.
