I went to my LFS a little while ago to get some fish for my tank. I wanted a bristlenose pleco and 5 rummynose tetras. I asked the guy if they had any bristlenoses and we went to a tank that had one that was marked for $7.99. So i told him I would take it in a little bit because i still wanted to look around. When I was done looking, I told the other man that I wanted 5 rummynose tetras and a bristlenose pleco. My dad and I were looking at stuff in one of the isles waiting. Then the man gave me the bag with the fish and it had the prices written on it. There was a problem though, the bristlenose was marked as $19.99. I went right over to both guys that worked there becqause they were talking and told them that he made a mistake. So the man I talked to at first showed the other guy the price and he said the the prices were old, that they should have been changed 7 months ago. So the guy just crossed out the $19.99 and gave it to use for the marked price of $7.99. I like it when the LFS makes errors in my favor.

Its good they didnt refuse... They could get in quite a bit of trouble if they didnt sell it to you at that price.

Yea because then I would have had to get big. ;)
be careful, lol, i posted a topic called "ripping off fish stores" about the same thing and it turned into an all out ethics/morals discussion.

the diffrence is that he didn't intend to rip them off, they had made an error in marking the price wrong. big difference.
and in my experiences they made errors in which fish was which. not as big a difference as you seem to think

I would think $20 for a bristlenose would be the mistake...$8 sounds a bit more appropriate anyway.

That would be from a breeder... lfs around here sell them for 10.00-20.00 each... sounds about right to me... that would be for larger bristlenose (larger than 3 inches). 1-2 inches go for 3.50-8.00 each from a breeder.

I think 7.99 was right, and the 19.99 was a mistake. bristlenose plecos don't really cost much.

I agree - $19.99 was the mistake - unless you are talking some full grown 5" bristlenose. Bristlenose typically sell for around the $7.99 mark

The one I got was about 4 inches or so. The one I saw first was a bit smaller and the guy said that he would be sold for $14.99.

is this bristlenose an Albino? I do know that breeders sell them from 5-8 dollars each to the stores. The Lfs has to make some profit, so add at least 5 dollars to that and that is your answer. But each region differs. Here in Los angeles, they go from 10-20 dollars like I said before. For a 4-5 inch Pleco, 15 dollars would most likely be the asking price. I cannot see them selling that size for anything less. I NEVER seen a common "bristlenose" before. Just the albino bristlenose and the Starlight bristlose (which goes for 10.00 for a 2 incher)

This isn't an albino, just plain color. Same color as my common pleco.

I paid $5.99 for my bristlenoses and they were from the local shop that generally has pretty high prices (for those of you in Chicagoland...I got them from Scott's, so you know what I mean).
