hi, just got back from the fish shop with 2 little puffers to put in our 2ft community tank...and they are biting EVERYTHING!! so i have quickly put them in a breeding tank on thier own, and we are deciding wether or not to buy a seperate tank for them.
if we do.. my wife would like to have it as a 'puffer only' tank, but are there many different types of puffer? and will they mix ok?

i only mean reasonably priced fish.. not £20 for half a tail.. :)

thanx, as we do really like them, and dont want to take them back!!
giles.:)

As far as I understand, most puffers cannot be kept in a community tank. They might be small, but they are very aggressive! What kind are they?? Its always safest to do research before you buy any fish to avoid this problem!! Looks like you have another tank in your future :D

umm....

yeah... got a little excited at the shop..
dont know their name, but they werent the cheapest ones on display.

they are a pale yellow green back, with broad black stripes across it, fading into black spots, to a white tummy.
very cut :D

the shop owner told us to be carefull if putting them with a fighter fish, which we werent, so thought it be ok.

they are going for anything that moves!!!!!!
dammit!:)

Puffers in general are not community fish. Even more, excepting a few species, they are mostly solitary or species-only fish. These are highly specialized fish with water requirements a bit more demanding than most, specialized diets, and stong territoriality. Yet they are among the more intelligent and interactive with their keeper fish, and most live very long lives with proper care.
