she looks big, like about to pop, but no fry yet... what to do? I am tired of waiting, and am affraid that when she will finally deliver, the other fish in the tank will eat the babies. I put her in a net for a few days, but she seemed lonely so I placed her back in the big tank. Is she prego, or just super fat?!

What will you do with all the babies when she does have them if you catch them all?? Platys are eternally pregnant, and if you save all the fry you could start your own shop! If you want to save some, and not worry about it, buy some stuff called breeding grass. It gives them a good place to hide, and the best few should make it to be too big to eat :D

tiger,
Mine delivered the other day, finally. I thought she was going to explode, too.
I have two platies in my 36 gallon, Spackles and Goldie -- Goldie was the pregnant one. She started swimming all over the tank like crazy with Spackles in tow and I could see part (rofl! I don't know fish anatomy! hahaha) of her bottom near her anus was puckered out and whitish and there was a longish whitish (ROFL!) thing hanging from her a few times. I'd assume that was the cord or something? Any how, her and Spackles did the crazy swim for about an hour and when I did get time to check her, she was getting thinner and thinner. Finally she stopped for a bit, back to her normal size.
I never did see an actual fry delivered nor any in the tank, so I didn't bother to feed the fish that night. I figured they already ate.
Less than an hour later her and Spackles were doing the hoochi koo dance. I guess she's gonna be pregnant again soon :) This time we're gonna move her to another tank.
