I've seen people before at stores and heard stories on the internet of people feeding crayfish to large cichlids. Well tonight I tried it out and Bubba(my oscar) loved the 2 I gave him. One of them had bigger pinchers then the first so bubba had a much harder time eating the second one cause the crayfish gave him one hec of a fight but bubba was not injured. Next time I do this though I am gonna get crayfish that have small pinchers just to be on the safe side. I just wanted to ask yall to see if yall have ever done this and if crayfish have good nutritional value. I figured they'ed be like crickets, high in protien. Thanx. Yall have a good day!

just think of them as supersized ghost shrimp.
my oscar tries to get the crayfish but his fear of pinchers is greater than his hunger.
my puffer makes the initial kill, usually with a massive bite to the back. [showing superior puff intelligence to avoid the pinchy end ] if what ever is left doesn't move, or the puffer is full, the oscar comes in as a clean up crew.
tonite it happend differently and rather odd. as the puff went for the back of the crayfish, it jetted down his gullet. the puff was rather excited having his food attack him from the inside. but it only lasted a few seconds and the puff seems fine now.

note: i am not reccommending oscars with fahakas. its just how it is at my house for the time being.

I think like prawns (shrimp) they are very high in protein. I would use them as an addition to a pellet staple but not as the main feed. Usually feeding high protein live food too much will result in an outbreak of tiny planaria worms!

puffers are definately some bright fish. what are you going to put your fahaka in when she's all grown up?
