Help!

Earlier my angel's top fin was all okay, but now it's spilt down the middle.

And now that I look, it's tail fin is all split too.

Could it be from my larger angel chasing it? I have noooooo clue what to do about this.

That's the best picture I could get of him.

Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - below 20

Could it be the pH, kh and hardness?

Hardness - 150
kh - 180
pH - either 7.8 or 8.4

But they're acting normal other than the fact the bigger one's chasing the little one. I thought it'd be okay at first, but now the little one's fins are all split. Theyr'e in a 10 gallon for two - three more weeks while my 29 gallon cycles. And there's a log in the center.. Everytime the little one gets near it, the big one chases it away. Could this be the problem?

I've never kept angels, and I'm not too familiar with their temperment, but my rather uneducated guess would be that yes, the little guy is getting picked on. Try adding some plants or ornaments to the tank for him to hide in, maybe...?

The pH is a little high..... I'm standing firm in that the little guy is stressed form the bigger one chasing him. Angels are cichlids and this is typical cichlid behavior, especially in a smaller tank. I would suggest plants too but not many for the 10 gallon...maybe a tall corner plant for now, a plastic one so he can hide in. They're going to need all the room thay can get while they wait for the bigger tank. My thoughts are if the bigger fish is displaying this in the smaller tank, it may ride over to the bigger tank so that needs to be looked after. You may eventually need to keep them separated permanently or returning one of them to the store. I'm sure you do realize the 10 gallon would work for the short term, but long term, a 10 is too small for the Angel's adult fins which I suspect is why you have the bigger tank. Angels are one of my favorite fish, so good luck with what you do.

There are also tank dividers which you could use to split the tank in half - I think they let water through, so it's still one tank as far as water changes and what-not, but the fishies are separated - this might help the little guy relax some (once he figures out the big guy can't get at him). This with a plant or something to hide behind might help....

Just thinking...

i also say it is damage from chasing/fighting/territorial issues. mine have had this and healed by the next day, believe it or not. but, any "wound" does make them vulnerable to secondary infections. you could also try some stresscoat...should help but won't stop the problem.
