Do corys and tiger barbs mix well? I am considering a tank of corys, tigers, and maybe som O's for algae control. Any suggestions or advice??

I have a small school of cory cats in my Tiger Tank, with a school of 12 or so Tiger Barbs. They all seem to get along fine. I have found that larger groups of Tiger Barbs helps to hold down the Tigers from picking on other fish. They tend to be too busy keeping up their pecking order in the group to bother the Cories in this configuration.

If you are going to keep any barbs it is always best to do so in larger groups. Smaller groups or solirtary barbs tend to lead to chaos int he tank and fin nipping.

I agree, Tiger barbs need to be kept in schools of atleast six (6) fish, when kept this way they are so enthralled with their own affairs -n- squables that they seldom bother tankmates. Seldom, not not never, they will nip a fin here -n- there, but can be kept with a wide array of tankmates.

I have cories with my tigers. For the most part, there isn't a problem. Only typically during feeding time, since the tigers will not stop eating until every last speck is gone, they will nip the cories to get them out of the way in their search for food.

Only other times that the tigers pick on the cories is if a cory is near the school, and they want to roam the area themselves. The cories learn pretty quick where the safe spots in the tank are, though.

Tigers don't care too much about substarte. Rock will be fine, some pople even go with no substrate.

I would be wary about the butterfly and the barbs. The tigers are very fast swimmers and the butterfly much slower. It might get stressed. But I have never kept that type of grouping so i can't say for sure.
