I have three tanks two 10's and a 55 and have had them sat up for several months with no problems and a couple of weeks ago i noticed an alge build up starting so i sucked them down 50% and pulled out all the fixtures (plastic plants rocks, etc) and gave them a good scrubbing and vacumed out the gravel real good and in less than a week it is back with a vengance how do i get rid of this crap without killing my fish.

I feed twice a day and do 20% abought every 5 or six days I have a test kit and keep every thing in check I test 2 times a month amo nitrites nitrates are all at ecceptable levels ph is a little high i leave the lights on 75% of the time one of the tens has really brite flouresent lights and it seem to be the worst of the three.

Hey,
If it is a brown algae then its probabaly diatoms. This exact thing happened to my 29g at around the 8 week mark (tank had been cycling for a full 6 weeks then I added a few fish). As I understand it (and I'm no expert) diatoms are common at the end of a cycle and will go away on their own. It does look bad though, but don't worry; your tank is fully cycled and mine totally disappeard in a week or so.
Good luck!
