so I was wondering if you could use these as kinda a spare tank... we need to get our 33 gallon repaired and it's housing 6 baby crayfish. I dont really want to spend the money to go out and buy a tank to hold them in...

I guess the main concern is weather or not there are chemicals in the plastic they are made of that can leak out into the water?

I think it would be ok. I've heard of people "tubbing" in the summer. They use rubbermade tubs to breed fish on their decks and porches.

Everything I have heard about it seems to be ok. A lot of people also use them for homemade wet/dry filters.

I have 3 fry in a 25 gallon former toybox. They have a heater and air pump in there.. I've asked around and got several replies that this setup was sufficient for them, so I don't see why you couldn't use it too.

I know people who use them for sumps in reef systems. So I don't see why you can't use it.

If there is a recycling label on the container somewhere it is probably safe.

If you find the label, you can cross reference it here-

If there is no recycling label on the container, you might be taking your chances.

i use them but if filling more than halfway your going to need to support the sides a little on the longer tubs or else they bulge out and it looks pretty scary.
the rubbermaid tubs are actulyl what i used to breed crayfish in.

what kind of crayfish were you breeding?

we've got a 200 gallon kiddie pool for when they breed... and a 135 tank on the way as I speak!!! we're hoping to get the pool set up like an indoor pond in the basement eventualy!
