Local News Releases Identities of Gun Owners...

The names and addresses of "concealed weapons" owners (by permit/license) were released yesterday by www.wftv.com (Channel 9) here in central Florida. This was only in the central Florida area, but it seems like a bad idea.

The information has been pulled off the website, but it's still around on other sites. The News station has been threatened, and many think this was "poor judgement" on thier part.

They say it's around one in forty that are legally licensed to "carry". I thought it would be higher than that.

I would not want to be balatantly listed on some News agency. The names and addresses are public domain, but not that easy to obtain. The News agency has now made it very easy to know who has guns at their home, and on them in person..

What's you opinion?
 
Personally, I make it no secret that I'm armed. I want it known that if you break into my home or endanger my family, I will try my level best to end your pathetic existance, or at the very least, make sure you never forget how big a mistake you made.

However, public distribuition of names and addresses, for whatever reason, is a major problem for me. Find the names and address of the employees at that news channel. MAke them available. See how fast they sue you for your trouble.. I smell a class action lawsuit coming from a bunch of Floridians carrying concealed weapons..
 
Hmm... let's treat liscensed gun owners like sexual predators and throw their names all over the internet like they've done something wrong.


Ughh.. once again, the responsible are punished. One of the many reasons I HATE the media for the most part.

I couldn't find it either, but in a related article on the site...

"More than 55,000 Central Floridians are licensed to carry a concealed weapon. Orange County has the most, followed by Brevard and Volusia."
 
I mentioned in my first post that they pulled it off the website. Get this, the reason they told a local radio station on why it was removed from the website, is it was "outdated". That was a real bad excuse! The list was only up for a day or two - not sure of exact time, but it was hardly "outdated" !

Another important thing I forgot to mention was that everyone on the list had their birthdates listed too. IT's not right...

Here's a quote from 540AM radio 'Bud Hedinger Show' down here. It's from a letter they got from the News agency. Their reason for posting the list was:

"... a legitimate concern of the public."

WHAT?? Since when did I or any of my co-workers and friends have a CONCERN over WHO has concealed weapons permits?? Why should I know this, and single them out, and know their exact age, last names, and where they live?? This is wrong, really wrong. It's almost as if they are listing them as Terrorists!

I take that back, it IS like they are listing them as Terrorists. :rant:
 
I would think it opens people up as a target, and if something happened as result I bet they will get sued.
