I have friend with two cichlids (an albino something and convict) in a 25 gallon tank. He's wondering if there are bottom feeders and/or algae eaters that could go in this tank without being killed. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Liz

Just realized there's a cichlid forum - will go look now. Moderators - feel free to move this.

aside from your tank size, no one bothers pl*co's
ive had a very aggressive cichlid tank and with all the bloodshed between themselves the pl*co was never harrassed or even looked at. he just went on his merry way
i fed mine algae wafers and sinking shrimp pellets
just dont get a tiny pl*co, at least match its size to the cichlids

Thanks, SquirrelOsO!

I did a search after I realized there was a cichlid-specific forum and found lots of bristlenose recommendations, which I've passed on to my friend - at 4.5 inches, it seems like this would work in his tank.

Any alternatives appreciated (I think he doesn't like the BNs (kinda ugly to him :D)).

I'm guessing shrimp won't work? (I'd bet his kids would love to see shrimp in there, but I guess the cichlids would attack them, no?)

Thanks,

Liz

The cichlids would eat the shrimp for sure, but he could always buy feeder ghost shrimp and put them in with the intent that they become food. His kids might enjoy that if they're old enough. Survival of the fittest and all that.

i wish i can find a bristle nose. seems like when im looking for a pl*co all i find is the common ones but when im not looking golly i find all the unusual ones i cant buy, so frustrating lol
i would wonder if the bristles would be tempting for another fish to bite? they kinda look like worms sticking out of their face :p:
