Beginning of this week i received a generous plant shipment from "beviking" and put them in my 10G tank.
He gave me some really good advice but also suggested to ask a few questions on here to see what the answers might be.
The plants i put in the tank are:
Anacharis (floating)
Riccia (floating)
Sunset hygro
Hygrophilia difformis
(the last 2 he threw in "for fun" - i was hoping to just be able to try some floating plants at first)
So what i am wondering is - what should i watch out for now ? Ph, ammonia, nitri/ate ?
How soon will i be able to tell if they are doing ok ?
I was also thinking about trying to give them a little boost by using a simple DIY CO2 system (bottle, yeast etc). But after reading about that a lot i start to wonder how "safe" is it to do that ? Obviously the ammount of CO2 in the water directly influences the Ph. How do i keep the ph from fluctuating and ultimately killing my fish ?
Often when "newbies" post their first questions about a new tank they mention they added some Ph stabilizer, decreaser etc. The usual answers to that is: DONT - a stabil Ph is what you need - otherwise your fish might die.
At the same time a lot of people seem to use simple CO2 systems with which it seems impossible not to have PH swings (day night).
My water is supposed to be "soft" - i assume that makes this situation even more difficult ? I dont have a kH/gH kit yet - so should i wait to try the DIY CO2 (if its advisable to do so at all) untill i get that ?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this...
