i've heard many times that angels should be kept either on their own or in group of 3 or more, unless they are a breeding pair.

i've had a angel on it's own now for couple years, it's doing really well and it's my fav fish.

i was wondering could i add a second angel or is it to late now?

if it would be ok what size angel should i get?

the one i have now is about 5in nose to tail and about 7-8inches tall.

he/she not sure which lives in my 40g see details below in link.

Cichlids like angels are a little like cats when it comes to adding another companion after they mature. My angelfish had a betta buddy he grew up with and hung out with all the time. He apeared to mope a little when the betta died, so I tried getting another betta. That cheered him up, but he only bullys the new betta so I'm going to have to set up the 5 gallon tank for the betta.

My dad had a really aggressive male angel and decided to get another angel. He picked a strong confident young fish and successfully introduced him to the tank. However once the new angel got big enough he finally had enough of the older angel pushing him around. He confined the old angel to a corner of the tank, which broke his spirit and he wasted away.

There is a chance both would be able to live, but the odds of one of them being stressed by that arrangement is great.
