Just new to this forum and was looking for some advice about my tank hardwater, Ph levels. As of this morning the Ph is at 6.3 and the KH is 6dKH and the GH is 12dGH. This is the softest and lowest Ph that I can get this water that came out of my faucet some 5 weeks sgo. I can dump buffer compounds and all sorts of stuff that come in neat bottles until im blue in the head!!. Im at a 'critical' point with the buffer in the water and was wondering how to soften the water to a more respectable level. I would like to get the Ph to a 6 or below for the Discus health. The test numbers today are great considering the tap water Ph was 7.8 and the GH was in the area of 23dGH!!!!!!, No joke!. Would anyone like a glass of 'Rock Water?'...............

dude,i hate to say but discus might not be the fish for you.Lots of fish will live in your water,i had to come to the same conclusion and not keep soft water fish like discus.sorry.

If you're serious about discus, then time and money shouldn't be much of an issue. If I were you, I'd go for an Ro/Di unit, then mix a bit of tap water to get the right pH and hardness.

pbrack's got it. What you're doing is trying to get pure water by adding stuff to it,,,just doesn't add up. Start with pure water and add a little tap or appropriate buffer.
