great site people, very helpfull.well heres the score my tank has been up and running for roughly about a month or so now its a 4` tank 47gallons or so it has underwater filter sysem running with two flo jet 3 powerheads running and sizable heater.lighting consists of two flouresent lights 10,000 sun and 50/50 reef.the substrate is quite fine and about 4" thick,i have about 8-10 kilos of live rock(but hope to be putting the same amount in again) all my water levels are right ph etc. now i just wondered should i wait before i`ve added all the live rock i want in there before i consider getting my clean up crew i do plann on getting protien skimmer and other essentials in the futre but i`ve been told the setup i have at the moment is sufficient enough. any info would be appreiciated.would anyone agree that this would be a good way to start?(hopeing to end up with many corals (soft corals mostly)and a few carefully selected fish

I'm not sure about the lights. I am sure some corals would be ok but "many" might not. I am sure there are people on here that have a better idea about this than me, as I have never used flourescents before. I was told that the minimum lights for most corals are PC lights.
Just double check before adding too much, both because corals are expensive and usually harvested from the wild. If they die in your tank both your bank account and the environment takes a hit. Also, make sure your LFS isn't pushing you to buy something. When I first started I relied entirely on advice from my LFS, which turned out to be benificial for the store rather than my tank.
Anyone else have any experience using flourescents? If so what types of corals do best??

thanks for the info....my LFS is pretty good and i``m sure they wouldn``t give me duff advice it`s in there best interest not too (and a pretty good friend works there too and he seconds everything they have said) as for the lights will probably upgrade at a later date.i`m just starting slowly adding little bits as i go.i``ve been told this is the best way.probably wont even be thinking of getting any fish in the tank till after crimbo. but will keep u all informed.any info is helpfull and considered, appreiciate it cheers.....
