I am looking for some red fish to finish stocking my 46 gallon bowfront. I currently have 4 blue gouramis, 4 red wag platies, 1 angel, and 1 betta. I would like something more substantial (larger and prettier)than the platies to offset the blue gouramis. As a side note, does anyone think this tank is overstocked and if not how many more fish can I get without pushing it?

I do not think your tank is overstocked.
Hmm... can't think of a big red fish right now. :hang:

You have alot of options. You could do some big sailfin mollies or basiclly what ever you want ;) Also you may want to keep an eye on your gouramis and betta, since they are close relatives there is a good chance they'll fight. And I checked out your "imprisoned ichthyic friends(hehe)" stats and your common pleco will outgrow both your tanks too @ 2 foot.

I know some species of pleco get that large, right now he is about 3.5". I will post a picture of him, maybe you can tell me what species he is? Also, how long will it take him to get that size (2')?

I had my common in a 29 for about 8 months before he got to only one foot, then I found him a new home and he is currently at 18 inches. If you got one of the plecos that petstores seem to have millions then it is a common. If you post a pic I'm sure I or someone else can help you identify him.

Are the blue gourami's dwarfs? If so you could get some flame dwarf gourami's. there not red but a pretty bright orange with blue dorsal fin. There's a pic of mine in my sig.

Swordtails could be good too, like red velvet swordtails, and can also grow pretty large.

thanks guys. think i may go with cherry barbs or red dwarf gourami's. guess i will have to get rid of the pleco soon though, may replace him with oto's, which i understand are better at removing algae anyways.

I have a couple of Red Flame Gouramis that are bright red and add a lot of color to my aquarium.
