i've had a 40 gallon tank with some live plants, a few tigers, an algea eater and sand. I've gotten pretty bored of them and i'm looking for some new fish. What I'm looking for is a fish that is somewhat larger and looks really cool. I also want it to be able to eat feeder fish. I would prefer if it was easy to take care of. I would like it to get along with my 6 tiger barbs but if not i could give them away. I would consider getting 1-3 of these fish. I'm somewhat inexperienced and would like the fish to be pretty easy to take care of. Just throw out some ideas and advice, thanks a lot.

I dont really know what type of fish you are looking for, tetras, chiclids, oddballs etc. But maybe some Angelfish or Discus? You just have to watch water quality though. Just a thought. :)

I think you would want to look in the cichlid family if you want a fish that eats feeders. Oscars will get too big for your tank though.

My roomate keeps an african cichlid tank, mix of kenyi, bumblebees, venustus, and zebras, and they love guppies. You wont be able to keep a tremendous amount of africans in a 40G, but you could def fit a few with a good amount of caves. The tiger barbs would def have to leave though.

I guess i'm just looking for the most ferocious fish possible, specifically which cichilids would you recomend in regards to good looks, easy to take care of, and ability to dominate.

most africans are fairly aggressive, territorial, and carnivorous. The rest I can not really answer for you. The reason there are so many fish available in the hobby is beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My .02 cents are I really like the red zebras and the blue kenyis. I would def just check your LFS and the net and just see what appeals most to you.

I'm not sure about care level, but I've had my eye on the red jewel cichlids at my lfs. They are pretty bad *** and have really nice coloring red with glittery spots, kinda like dempseys. I guess they don't get any bigger than 6" so they might be something to look into.
