Hi,
I just setup a new 125 gallon tank, drilled with 2x 1 inch drains, into a 20 gallon wet/dry filter (self built), and returned via a 600 gph pump (this is the actual flow rate, pump is rated @ 750 gph @ 3 ft head).

Tank has been set up for two weeks now, it's lightly planted, and I have added quite a few young fish, 10x Cardinal Tetras, 10x Glow Light Tetras, 10x Black Neon Tetras, 10x Harlequin Rasboras, 4x Angelfish, 1x Clown Loach, 1x Kuhli Loach, and last but not least, 1x Bristle Nose Catfish.
I do understand this is probably to many fish for such a new setup, but I have a 1000 litre aged water tank just outside the door, so if the water tests bad in any way, it's very easy for me to do frequent water changes to bring things back into line.

Once the tanks finished cycling, I plan on adding a Zebra Pleco to the mix, and then as many Discus as the tank can comfortably/safely contain. How many Discus would you consider a safe amount under these conditions, and with the above companions?

Thanks for your time, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

Honestly I would not recommend any discus. Your clown and the kuhli each need at least a couple more friends. After that, I would consider the tank fully stocked or pretty close to it. Most people when doing discus do a species only set up. They are extremely sesitive and require specific water conditions. I think most discus tanks need a 50% or more water change more than once a week.

Make sure to test your ammonia and nitrite frequently. With that many fish the ammonia could spike within a day to a very lethal level, depending on the amount of plants, which should help some.
