I noticed my bamboo shrimp (aka wood shrimp/fan shrimp) acting weird this morning. Normally he is perched on a plant under the filter outflow or near the filter intake fanning for food. Sometimes I see him walking the tank bottom scraping for food. However, this morning I see him racing around the tank, doing laps as well as trying to climb up. I think he may have been trying to escape. Has anyone seen this behavior before?
I suspected something with the water quality as I may have been overfeeding trying to get my new rubberlip pleco to eat. I tested the water and got the following results: pH: 7.2, NH3: 0, NO2: 0.25, NO3: 20.
I think the overfeeding led to a bump up in Nitrites from the zero level I had just 3 days ago and the bamboo shrimp was the most sensitive to it. Funny thing is my amano shrimp didn't act crazy and my cories were not acting strangely. I didn't have time to do a water change this morning but added a dose of Prime. Hopefully this will help the situation until I get to perform a water change tonight.
Funny thing is I couldn't locate the bamboo shrimp before I left this morning after he raced around. I even looked outside the tank just in case he escaped but didn't see anything.
