All four of my platies have been sick. I was treating them for internal parasites and thought they were getting better. But today one of my calico platies seems to have a prolapse or something...has anyone seen anything like this before?

Could this be caused by internal parasites? Maybe an intestinal blockage that finally cleared? Whatever it is, I'm assuming I'm going to have to euthanize...I'm sure she won't heal from this. :(

Well my old goldfish had sores like that when he had anchor worms but you don't have those. I guess you could keep treating for parasites though. I'm not sure what that is. Hope someone can help. Good Luck

Anyone have experience with this? Can I expect this to be the end result of parasites for the rest of my fish?

I know the pictures aren't clear, but I can't get a better pic. To me, it doesn't look like a tumor, but like all of her insides are basically coming out of her body (prolapse.)

TIA!

what size tank do you have? do you have a quarintine tank? if not depending on the amount of $$ invested in your tank, you might want to take it to get looked at by a vet? he might be able to better diagnose the problem, and maybe give you medicine to treat the whole tank? just a though..

I've got a 20 gal and a 10 gal. All of my adult fish were in the 20 gal until they got sick. First all the babies in the 10 died (It was being used as a grow out tank.) At the same time, one adult was sick, it has always been picked on by the male too. I moved it to the 10 for quarantine, and then the rest started showing the same symptoms. At this point I've got two in the 10 and two in the 20, and both tanks went through treatment for internal parasites. They're by no means expensive fish. It's just upsetting to see them go through this, and I feel helpless not knowing exactly what it is they're suffering from.

Both tanks were fully cycled, and the fish had appeared healthy for so long...growing, eating well, swimming all over the place, having babies. They've been struggling for quite a while now, and I'm getting so discouraged. The fish hide, are skittish, but are still eating (well all of them, except this one whose insides have exploded.) I feel like just giving up the whole aquarium thing.

your right.. i hate it when one of my fishies gets sick.. even more when they pass.

It looks to me that the intestines are coming out of the Anus. I am not sure about this, never had this problem. What are you using to treat the parasites with? If you can, try some crushed garlic, this usually helps with internal parasites. Or you can try some foods that are sold with Garlic in it.

I am hoping someone more knowledgable about fish disease will read this, I rarely get fish illnesses. So I have no idea how to treat this ailment.

WOW, I doubt a vet could save the fish, but I would be interested in a diagnosis. sorry you're having such problems, that looks pretty bad. I would euthanize if it seems to be bothering the fish. Don't give up though, I'm sure this has got to be some sort of freak incidence

OH MY !!......Poor little girl !!

I had a male betta once that I thought had a fungus like tumor. It was a large fuzzy ball sitting at the end of his vent. I thought for sure I was going to loose him but started treating him with bettafix anyway. It looked to me like a blockage of some sort.

(Hang in there...this is relevent to Mishi's situation....lol)

Well, I felt so sorry for him and decided to at least try to clear it for him so I put him in a walmart bowl with just enough water to breath in and I gently squeezed his lower end. The blockage was removed but it left this ugly gaping hole in his vent that looked sort of like what your little platy has there !!

Well, GAD it looked awful but I put him in some fresh clean water in that walmart bowl and changed it every day adding extra salt and bettafix...every day....He healed up fine and I still have him !! :D

SOOO...you just never know ! I would put her in a smaller tank with an airstone and keep the water VERY VERY CLEAN !!! Extra salt and wait it out..see what happens with her. She's a very pretty little fish Mishi...I hope she comes through for you like my betta did.
