Hi everybody-

I have a planted 12g freshwater tank with no fish yet.

I bought 3 very small shrimp today, and put them in. I've looked in some of the guides for these animals but can't find them, so I'm just wondering if they can survive off the microscopic plant matter in the tank or do i have to throw in some kind of food for them?

thanks

I would add a few flakes to your tank to feed them. What kind of Shrimp do you have? and how old is your tank? if they are algae eating shrimp, how old is your tank is pretty important because they need to have an established tank to feed off the algae but if its new. you need to suplement their diets.

Hi trickster, thanks for answering

I believe my shrimp are called 'Black Midget Shrimp' and they are very small (3/4 inch). Right now my tank is new- I have some plants in there but no other fish, and there is no algae to speak of.

Sounds like I should drop a few pellets in there every once in awhile. (which I did already just in case)
