Hello,

I was just wondering if there are any special tips or considerations when starting a Malawian African Cichlid Tank or any Cichlid tank in general. This will be my first Cichlid tank and I want to make sure I can provide a suitable environment. The tank is a 55 Gallon Long.

Thanks,

James

Thanks for the link.

Question for you. Where did you get your rock and the sandy subtrate for your cichlid tank ?

Thanks again,

James

The rock I got from a local river, and the sand for my 90 gallon is from a river as well (near the delta part where the river meets the ocean, so there were fine sediments). The substrate for the 30 gallon in my pictures is just 'african cichlid substrate' and was a mix of crushed coral/agronite and tahitian moon sand (i think thats what it was). There are lots of pre-made african cichlid substrates out there but they are kind of expensive.

If you dont want to take rocks from the 'wild' then landscape supply stores often have neat rockwork thats pretty cheap.
