So I cant get my fish into my car to go home for Thanksgiving (Wednesday afternoon- Sunday afternoon). This would be a goldfish and a blue lobster... as long as the lobster is fed he wont attack the goldfish, but what should I do to keep Goldie from becoming Dr. Zoidberg's dinner?

Obviously I cant put food pellets/flakes in for that length of time, but what about ghost shrimp? Worms? Will the lobster snack on them before he takes a shot at the goldfish?

Leaving live food in the tank will help distrcting the lobster, but not sure method.

Get a tank divider, put the lobster apart of the goldfish and put your live food on the lobster side. 2 days withuot food will not harm him.

For the goldfish side, thare are "vacation feeder" that look like small white pyramids and dissolve slowly realeasing dried food in a constant basis. Also, you could buy a automatic feeder for a few bucks.

However, I'd look for a friend to watch them at least once daily to check the filter and feed them.

Good trip and happy thankgiving.

I really cant think of two worse tankmates....They will simply have to be separated. Keeping them together is reckless.

The lobster really doesnt bother the goldfish too much. Sometimes he even seems to be scared of the goldfish, the goldfish will swim up to him and he will retreat into his little log/hole/whatever...

The tank divider may become necessary if little nips begin appearing on the fish's fins again, but I havent seen these since the first day they were together. The fish learned to avoid the bottom, unless its the opposite side of the lobster...

Having somebody to check on them isnt an option. They will be in a dorm which is locked to all entrance...

then a cheap divider would make both tank parties happy and your goldfish should make it through the holidays with out becoming a goldturkey

Thats the solution that's looking better and better. I was thinking of somehow dividing the tank top and bottom rather than side to side. Each critter needs his space, and I dont know if they would like being in such cramped quarters...

Two-layers sound like a better idea?

Don't make a horizontal divider. If you do that, you will not allow your goldfish to make it to the bottom. I've seen my GF rest in the bottom of the tank when sleeping. Looks too cute. Don't know if this is normal or not, but cute. He even sleeps just beside a small koi housed with him.

I don't know lobters behavior, but you would prevent hin also form reacing surface (in case he might need it)
