My Betta "Flash" has had a constant on and off ich problem since I got him. It will come and go. Lately, it has been pretty bad, (ich spots, cloudy eyes, etc).

I have just gotten over the regime of Coppersafe for a month, and Maracyn 2, for the whole 2 weeks. It seemed as though the ich was going away, but this morning, when I turned on the light to the tank, Flash looked like he was getting worse again.

I'm at a loss as what to do next. I do water changes weekly, the parameters of the tank are good:

pH 7.4-7.6
no Ammonia, Nitrites
Nitrates 10-20ppm
temp a constant 80 degrees

I don't want to lower his resistance by constantly medicating him. I did, however, buy aquarisol (it was recommended for bettas). Should I try this next? I don't have a clue.

Please help, thanks,

Michele

Best thing to treat ich with is salt and heat. No meds.

Read this article: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39759

Best and safest way to rid your tank of ich. Make sure you follow it to the letter and don't cut back on the number of days you treat for it.

Since you have a betta, jack the heat to 86 degrees. He'll be fine. Mine was "all better" on day 7, but will continue treatment to day 14, this Saturday, as indicated to make sure all the ich is erradicated from the tank.

Salt and heat worked for my betta tank...as people above suggested. However, don't limit yourself to two weeks. If the problem is persistent, then treat for a month or longer.

I'll 4th that....follow what Daveedka says in the article to treat ich.

That said..does he have ich again? With all those meds, he could ahve something else, when you use antibiotics like Maraycn it can wack out your tanks biofilter and leace your fish suseptible to other things.

I'll fifth that!!! I'm into another ich cycle because I was stupid and didn't use my hospital tank for some new plants that I got. (shame on me)

Correct me if I'm wrong,I don't think you can introduce ich into a tank from live plants?

Plants can be a vector. While the plants don't contract the parasite, the spores that fall off the fish can settle on plants and be imported with them--sort of how your dog doesn't really mean to bring dirt in the house, it's just on him?

Thanks everyone!!

Tomorrow, I'm going to do a water change and start raising the temp in the tank (slowly). I'll try the salt treatment. We'll see. :)

Thanks again,

Michele
