So after watching some of our hermits scrounge through the shells, I recall that I have some FW snail shells lying around, and wonder if the hermits would be interested. So, after dropping a couple in...

How'd you get the gold inca outta there? Just boil it?

The snail died in my frog tank about a month ago, and I just left it in there. There wasn't much left at this point--the other snails had cleaned the shell out pretty well. When we dumped them in, we figured the hermits would leave them alone for a few days, to allow the worms and such to clean them up. This guy decided he could do his own housecleaning--pretty sure he made a snack of it.

We decided we like it to, even though it's totally goofy. You can tell how much lighter weight this shell is--he can lift it up so high it looks like he's tippy toeing around the tank. The shell is also thin enough we can see the crab inside--he can get way back in there, well past that opening.

I love it. I do that for a lot of hermits and sometimes they will switch within seconds of dropping the new shell in.
