Last night I put 8 ghost shrimp in my tank. They were various sizes including a few full grown ones (about an inch). I figured I'd lose a few to various causes, but I look in the tank for them this afternoon THEY ARE ALL GONE!!!

Now, I could be missing a couple as I know they like to hide and are hard to see, but is it possible that my fish ate them all in less than 24 hours?!

Here's what I have:
3 Black Mollies
3 Red Serpae Tetras
2 White clouds
1 OTO

Just as I was writing this, I thought I saw one of the tetras chasing one, but I ran over to the tank and...no shrimp to be found. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Are the tetras or mollies obvious carnivores and shrimp decimators that I was not aware of? I know the tetras are fin nippers and slightly aggresive, but otherwise they are fine in my community tank.

Hmmm...ghost shrimp are a delicacy to fish. Also, since they are so small they could be hiding. Finally, they could've got sucked into the filter.

Sorry to hear about your loss. If you go surfing the net in aquarium related sites, you'll find that 99% times ghost shrimp is mentioned, they are talking food.

There's a big chance they became snacks. You could also check in your filter media if there is a "vacuumed" one.

Sorry again. there are some other type of shrimp that can be kept in the aquarium. Don't know much about it, but you could throw a question in the forum.

Thanks for helping guys. Anyway, I just took a little trip over to the tank and BAM, there's 4 shrimp. Now I'm pretty sure there's got to be at least a couple more simply hiding out of sight. I feel a little better now that I didn't send 8 shrimp to their immediate death - eventhough that's what the LFS sells them for at 10 for something like $1.39. :D

Shoulda written this here :D

I've had 2 shrimp in my 33 I've only seen them 2-3 times other than taking out a decoration and finding a leaping shrimp on the floor! Try picking that up or putting it in a net! Too bad they both got eaten eventually :(
