So I have a 55 gal tank at my parents' house, and they like it, but the only things in it are a pair of gold severums (4" f, 6" m) and a dempsey (~7"). I get the feeling that they don't really like the arrangement and would like more of a community tank with lots of smal colorful fish instead of just a few big ones. The only thing I have right now is a 30 long tank that I could move them into at my house, I've been thinking of getting it all set up lately anyway. Would those three fish go into a tank that size, or does it seem too cramped? No real plants, they all get trashed wih these guys, but lots of fake ones. I have an Emperor filter that I usually just fill up with lava rock for biomedia, and I might add something else for more filtration. Any tips?

I'm no SA/CA expert... but if you want a quick answer then its 'no'. All those fish will get much too large for a 30 gallon tank, by themsevles let alone all together.

What size are they right now? I'm sure if they were 1-2" then it would probebly work for a little while... but after that they will be too large.

The dempsey is about 6" without the tail length, and the severums are 3" and 5" without the tail lengths.
