If anyone was interested, you can get 2 1oz. bio-spira packets on ebay for $16.25 (saltwater also)
I ordered a pair because I just upgraded to a 45 gallon and although it is seeded with gravel mulm and filter media, the filter was left unrunning for several hours and possibly dried out and the gravel had been combined with gravel that had been rinsed with chlorinated water so I am not sure about the status of the nitrifying bacteria.... my readings are about 1.25-0-0 so I guess I'll need it.
My question is.... Before I found the Bio-Spira, I had initially treated my water with amquel+ and just added about another half-dose to help with the ammonia. Should I slowly change out the water 10% in exchange for chlorinated water (hopefully the low chlorine/chloramine level would not be dangerous and soon dechlorinated?) a few times, to help get rid of excess amquel? I also added today a "parasite clear" tablet by Jungle (http://www.mops.ca/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/skus/me/MEJU-TB635.asp?E+scstore)because it claims not to harm the biological filter, and my fish hasn't been eating too well and has seemed a little jittery (although that could quite possibly be from the ammonia). Will that harm the bio-spira?
Right now, the tank is at 1.005 sg, and in it I have a GSP (about 4") and 3 DP's, and I just purchased 2 small (1.5") GSP's, thus the Bio-Spira. I know I shouldn't have all those fish in an uncycled aquarium (eek)... but I have a bad tendency to be impatient and now that it's done, I'm just trying to do what I can to get the bio-spira to work.
