Behind you!
I need some ideas on what to add to my tank.
(40 gal lightly planted eclipse system)

I currently have...

5 black skirt tetras
1 Red tail shark
4 swordtails (3female, 1male)
1 albino cory
3 zebra danios
1 dwarf pleco

I just baught 8 tiger barbs last night, they are too aggresive so im taking them back shortly, any suggestions on what to replace with would be GREATLY appreciated.

thx

I'd suggest getting more corys...they like to be in groups. I'd get 5 more cories and 3-4 more danios, myself.

the red-tailed shark will become a problem and you should get rid of it. corys like toschool so you should get another or more. dojo loach are community fish with an interesting look and a personality and are inexpensive, they are also good bottom feeders (not the pleco, wich is a glass cleaner) to help with the glass you might want to try a couple farowa(stick catfish), rapheals also work well, if you get a few silver dollars then they'll school with the blackskirts but they like to eat plants, serpae tetra, rams, kribensis, livebearers, and so on

hey there decoy!

i may be wrong as i have never had a retailed black shark, but alot of websites say they can be semi agressive to agressive (especially as they get bigger).

but if you aren't having problems now you might be alright. is your shark fully grown? anyway if you start losing fish, he may be your prime suspect!!!!

i like corys, they are so cute (but bloody well expensive! $20 for a panda cory!!!! i don't think so!!!) but the albinos are reasonably priced i think (even here in australia). they should be kept in little groups of about 6 to be happy and display normal behaviour.

at the moment (if you read my thread you'd know ;) ) i'm in love with yoyo loaches. however i won't recomend them just yet as i don't know exactly how big they get or anything really!!! (thats what my thread is about) but there are some awesome little loaches around. v. cute. and i think they can usually hold their own with semi agressives (your little sharky there)

i wouldn't recommend anything too small like neon tetras with sharky around. anyways good luck!!!!

I would add more danios and corys, since they are schooling fish. How about a couple of Cichlids in place of the shark?

i have had an RTS, and he was quite happy under his log in a 20 gallon with a dozen cardinal tetras. I wouldn't recommend a RTS for a 20, but thats not your problem... it'll be fine in a 40, IMO

the poor guy got crushed in a move... i'm still kicking myself for letting my friend carry that tank down those stairs... Sharky was my GF's favorite, and one of mine too... he loved to cruise the top swimming upside down. soo cool

yeah, they can be aggressive, but more so to their own kind than other tankmates as long as it has a place to stake out as its own.

thats my experience anyway

nice selection of fish. looks like youve done your homework. ditto on the additional cories.
