can I use silicone?

Can I use 100% silicone in my tank? I got it from home depot, it's GE silicone II, windows and doors,100% silicone. It says on the back, not for use in aquariums. If it's 100% silicone and aquarium silicone is 100% than why would this stuff not be good for aquariums? It says it's low odor, could that have something to do with it?
 
Well actually i read on several (not just one) DIY aquarium page that GE SiliconeII contains (now i dont remember what its called - fungizide ? - the stuff to inhibit mold growth). Thats why they always say dont use GE SiliconeII in aquariums.

EDIT: It was called mildewcide and a google search turns up plenty of results... like this.

ummm to be on the safe side i would just go with the aquarium safe one .. im sure there is a reason when it says NOT FOR USE ON AQUARIUMS.. a small tube of the aquarium safe stuff goes a long ways .. i used so much of it out of a tube and then hubby redid a 20g tank with it .. so just to be ont he safe side just go with the safe stuff ..

My dad and I were talking about this earlier... he said silicone is pretty engineerable and can be combined with a lot of different chemicals, or something like that. So a lot of the silicone made is not safe for aquariums.
 
You want I believe GE SILICONE 1,read the ingredient and make sure it doesn't contain fungicide or mildewcides either of which will release toxins into the water killing your fish-Anne
