I have been looking into getting a tap water filter for quite some time now. It seems like every year as it gets closer to winter our water company does something different to there water and I end up loosing lots of fish because of it. Actually several people in town report the same problem. I test my water and even take it in to be tested and everything tests fine, which is why I am desperatly looking for a tap water filter or something. Hopefully I can solve this problem once and for all.

I was checking into the aquarium Pharm. Tap water filter it sounds good if you have perfect tap water. Well I don't. Actually nowhere close. I don't even drink our water. With two tanks a 125 and 20 this would not be cost effective.

I was thinking of maybe going with a water purification system that you can buy at sears. Not sure which one yet. Since we don't drink our tap water because of really bad taste I thought this might be the better way to go. Does anyone know which one might be best for not only drinking water for us but replacement water for the fish? Or is this possible.

Looking forward to everyone's suggestions.

The best thing would probably be to buy a Ro/Di unit, then buying some Ro-right by Kent marine to add some of the elements back in the water. I would much prefer doing mixes with tap and Ro, but if there is a strange odour in the water, it may be dangerous for the fish.

The problem with Ro/Di water is that it's like distilled water, there are little or no dissolved solids. So it wouldn't be good for drinking water. I would suggest one of those water fountains with the big jugs for drinking water, then an Ro/Di + Ro right (by Kent ?) for the aquarium water.

Hope this helps
