Was wondering if it'd be possible to add any other cichlids to my 55gal angel/discus tank. I understand that any other cichlid may be too aggressive, but just had the thought and figured I'd ask before anything. I also have few cories in there and everyone else was moved to another tank....

hey;
go for any smaller cichlids, probably best with apistogramma,
try a couple of pairs
or maybe even blue rams
(i presume youre water condition is pretty tip-top to keep discus, which they need)
also laeticara species(flag cich.) or nannacara sp(if you can find em.....)
(all the suggested sp like similar water cond to the fish you already have...)

hey Firetank, thanks.....
yep, water conditions are pristine, the discus encourage me to do so religiously ;)
I looked at all those you've suggested and really like the blue rams the best....such a nice looking fish IMO. Now, time for the homework....will be looking for info on these guys to weigh on whether I'm gonna go for it or not (I'm liking the idea though). So, with that, I think if all goes as expected at this point, I will be getting them in a couple weeks or so.....or when I feel I've got enough knowledge on them under my belt. Thanks for the suggestions....:D

couple o links there....
as far as ive read the wilder they are, the more aggresive they are, you may find them labled as german rams -- they are likely to be tank bred.
also note there is a similar species- the bolivian ram - slightly larger, less colourful and more hardy.

Usually with these kind of fish I see mostly two kinds of cichlids: rams and kribs. They get around 3-4 in. and would not kill or get killed by your discus/angels.

you're right, they do look very similar. I guess the thing I like about them is their shape, not as much as the color (though it is nice). I think being it is my first time and I am a little edgy about it, I might try the bolivian ram first....being as they're more hardy than the blue's....wonder if I could possibly add the blue's later without too much trouble.....I'll have to note that in my searching (btw, thanks for the links) :)
NJDUDE.....will look further into the kribs but my options are weighing more on the rams at this point. Thanks for the info though!

a lot of people seem to have problems mixing blues with bolivian , as the blues tend to harass the bolies......
and the kribs, i know a lot f people have success with them, ive found them a p,i,t,a.....
i have 2 female kribs ion seperate tanks, and they seem aggresive on their own, never mind what they would turn like if they started breeding!!!!

 yikes, the very thing I'm trying to steer away from. From this, I would presume that the bolies are the more peaceful of the two, right (and more hardy, extra bonus!! :D) ? The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards them bolies..... thanks!

whew!! I think I'll steer away from these too, the last thing I need is a bunch of angry fish added to my otherwise happy tank. If the bolies do tend to pick up an attitude though, there are plenty of nooks in the tank for those who feel a little less confident for the day. If I could choose the least likely to have their scales bunged up, the bolies are top runners. Thanks for all your help FT!!
