I have some gravel and large rocks that were previously in an aquarium. I want to use them but they need to be cleaned. My first instinct is to soak them in bleach water for a while. I'm sure this will clean them but I'm scared the bleach will absorb into the pores in the rocks and slowly leach out into the aquarium. Any advice?

I think all you need is a bleach dip of a minute or two to remove algae...that is how you do it from live plants. So then you needn't worry of it collecting in.

Or you could soak it in the bleach and then let it soak in some old tank water to remove the bleach.

I typically scrub the decor under hot tap with a toothbrush, then rinse in tank water.
