buildup due to water cond?

I have a 20gal. fw tank and recently there has been a green and white buildup around the filters. it looks like lime or calsium. there is also some mold, but I think that's just because of humidity. anybody know what this is from?

Green stuff might be algae. White stuff can be calcium deposits. This should not be evident for at least 4-5 months, unless you have a very hard water.

I have the same thing happening in a Whisper Power Filter. However, when I service the filter to clean all the tubing I also remove al the mulm that sticks around there,
 
I guess the green could have been algae, it just didn't look like it.
the tank has been there for about 2 years so I'm not suprised to see stuff on it.
