What is the consensus of using peat granules in canister filter as opposed to the backwater extract?

In the past I have used the extract with good results (lower PH, trigger breeding, etc.) but this time around I have a Fluval canister and have tried Peat Granules in the final chamber.

The water does not turn yellow as I had expected even after doubling up (two chambers).

What size tank do you have?

Would it be worth you running an additional filter such as an aquaclear that might give you better results with the peat granules? I would prefer to use those over the blackwater extract...

how long have you been running both?

i used the Fluvial Peat Granuals for a while, and they seem to take a while to take effect. i bet if you beat them up a little before you add them to the filter, they will have a quicker effect.

and i'd bet your water is a little yellow... even if you haven't picked up on it yet. take some out and look at it against some paper.

good luck.
