A friend of mine told me that I would be better off getting a Wet/Dry Filter?

A SYS 500 does anyone know anything about these Filters and is it worth getting these filters to filtrate my 80 Gallon?

Yes, I am very pleased with my wet/dry filter / sump set up.

The benefits I see are:

1. Provides excellent filtration for large tanks
2. Very easy maintenance
3. You can keep all the stuff out of your tank and in the sump - giving your tank a very open and clean look that can be nicely aquascaped (I currently have my heater, pump, a bag of purigen and a small foam filter sponge that I will use on a smaller tank with my Aquaclear 200 filter). If you have multiple tanks - this is a real easy way to pre-start a bio-filter
4. It keeps the water level in the tank constant
5. You can add water, fertilizer, etc via the sump without disturbing your fish

The only negative is the initial cost is probably a bit higher to start out - but I believe it pays for itself in less time, effort, supplies, etc in the long run
