I have a 55 gal. tank that has two power filter rating 310 gph, and the tank is cycled. There are numerous rocks and caves. I was thinking about putting six 5" african cichlids in the tank. Will this be too much? If i do it, i will put in two this week, two next week, and the final two the following week.

are there fish in this tank currently? if so, how many and what kind? if not, the filter is in fact, not cycled anymore. as to adding african cichlids ... better to add them all at the same time to mitigate the territoriality esstablished by the first ones placed in the tank.

yes i have about 40 feeder fish that are in there now but are coming out shortly before I add the cichlids. The filter is cycled, but do you thing 6 5" africans will be too much for the 55 gal?

I would not add them at different times (as much as that would be good for the filter, it will not be good for the fish). Adult africans are territorial, and likely the first 2 fish you add in there will dominate the tank and pick on the later additions.
Add them all at once... or get young ones that can be added a week or two apart.
