I started a 10 gallon nano reef in August. It has been 4 months. I can not get my zooanthids to open up. There is algae everywhere even though Im using deionized water. My Nassarius snails died. My spassy damsel is getting boring. I have tried really hard to make this aquarium work and look semi-decent. Nothing is working. Im ready to just dump it out my window(But Id save the poor damsel first).Does any body have any advice. I have 28 watt compact flourescent corallife, penguin filter with sponges in it, and a reliable heater. My nitrates are zero,pH 8.3and so forth. I have done numerous water changes to see if I have a water quality problem. It has not solved the problem.

I had my 10 nano and it was thriving! I would give it more light. I had a eclipse 2 hood/filter with a 32 watt PC conversion from sunpaq. Did bi- weekly water changes, bought 4 ultra bright blue LED's, correct resistors, and a transformer, sodered it up, drilled holes in light fixture for LED's and had a nice moonlight glow that the corals and fish seemed to really enjoy.

4 watts makes a difference? I doubt that. Actually I think I came up with a good idea. Ill stock the aquarium with an all out clean up crew untill Im satisfied, and once thats all settled than I will try corals.

Sounds like you have more of an issue than just lighting. If you are sure that your normal levels are fine nitrate, nitrite, ph, alk, ammonia, sg, sal, etc... start checking the not so common. try checking your copper level. If there is any copper in there even a trace its gonna mess you up. also do you give your zoo's food? try some zoomax. since your tank is small i'd limit the ammount of water you add.

I'd definitely check your parameters... also make sure nothing is in your tank killing snails etc... some hitchhikers are hard to spot when they only come out late at night...

keep an eye out and hopefully you'll find the cause...

all else fails just buy a good live shipment styrofoam box and ship it to me... I'll pay the shipping... (;

I'd hate to see that stuff thrown out...

before I forget, how much LR and LS do you have?
