Which adhesive?

Within the next few days I am going to convert my sump and a new overflow to 1" barb fittings and get away from the vacuum hose that is now in use. Many reasons for this change not least of which is being able to cut a proper length of tubing rather than have curls and bends in the vacuum hose since that stuff only comes in pre-determined lengths.
Anyway, my question is when gluing the pvc converter to the sump pvc intake, which is better, 100% silicone sealant or the pvc adhesive sold at the hardware store? How long should this 'cure' before I can start it up again?

If it's a PVC-to-PVC joing, use PVC cement.

ditto what mo said. i would let it cure for a good 24 hours before firing it up again.
