I am concerned about my polyps & mushrooms. I have a colony of polyps that are not opening up, and have a brownish film around the bases of the polyps. What would be the recommended treatment, freshwater dip or iodine dip or something else? And what is the best way to perform these treatments.

Also, I have noticed that some of my mushrooms are not opening up like they use to, particularly the red ones seem lighter in color and appear shriveled. Any ideas would could be causing this?

first of all you need to give us a little more info about your tank what are your water specs? what type of fish (if any) how long has the tank been up and running?

55 gallon tank's been up and running 5 years now. I have had the corals going for almost a year now. I have (1) tomato clown (1) cardinal (1) yellow tang (5) green chromis (1) banded shrimp (1) cleaner shrimp.

As for water specs, the most recent tests I have done are as follows:

Nitrate 10-20ppm (been little over 2 weeks since water change)
PH 8.2

All other standard tests were done by LFS recently, and everything was in order.

My assumption as well. To clarify, the brown film problem around the base of the polyps has been ongoing for sometime now. I have been blasting them with a turkey baster for awhile now trying to clean off the debris, detritis, etc., but now they seem to be getting worse and barely opening.

As for the mushrooms, this is a very recent problem. I noticed it right after I had rearranged all of my rock & coral. Prior to that, they were huge & fully expanding.

i agree with Lordsoldier on this one. IMO i would do 2 a week and keep a close check on your water specs. That can cause big problems if they are slightly off for long periods of time.
