I got our family a new puppy for Christmas. He is a 9 week old sable German Shepherd. He is scheduled to arrive at our home here in Texas on the 22nd from North Carolina. He is from the "G" litter and should have a G name. I do not have a picture of him yet but I do have one of his father.

well....G is a bit of a tough one... try "Gunther" which is german for "warrior"
or Galahad "pure and noble"..all else fails "goof ball" usually works lol

Is the dog from a breeder?
It is beautiful!!! Oh wait, that isn't 9 weeks old! O you said it was his father. DUH!

My parents raise Fidelco shepards to be trained for the blind. They have lettered litters in the same way- so we are always trying to come up with wacky names...like z names or I names.

Gustav
Griffen
That's all. I am not too creative right now. I'll see if I can think of more.
Congrats on the pup!!!

Oh, I adore German sheppards! You simply must post pictures of the little fuzzball when you bring him home!

Being the video game addict I am, of course I'll suggest Ganon or Goomba as a name. Or perhaps Gryphon? Ghengis? Gyro? Gatsby? Goethe? (<-- The English major in me especially likes the last two. Hah.)

Garfunkalo--that is funny!

He is from a breeder in NC. I have an 11 year old black/tan male from the same breeder. I also had a black/tan female that died one year ago form the same breeder that was 12 years.

The people that breed the dogs are much better with dogs than with computers. Hopefully I will be able to post some pics of the pup soon.

Keep up with the names. There are some good ones!

Are you concerned about vet care during the holidays at all? Between traveling and all the dangers of the holidays (food, decorations, ect.), you may have one stressed pup! I bet he's gorgeous, from the look of his father. :)

Rava--I agree that there are many bad or poor breeders out there. I am personal friends and have known this family of GS breeders for 12+ years now. The pup is not truely a Christmas gift but more of a timely addition to our family. I have been waiting for this particular litter since March 2005. The shepherd we have now is 11 y/o and the we lost one last year from old age at the age of 12 years (died in her sleep). Both dogs from the same breeder. We have at least 2+ acres of secure land and a calm animal friendly family. I like your thinking! Its obvious you have real concern for animal friends!

His dad's name is Yancy! I like Gate.........I will run it by the family.

Did you buy him from a fellow in Yancey county NC? Heh, was he a guy named Stirrel? I might know your dog breeder!

Name him Gervase, or Gerbil

If you ever get another one, and need a "C" name, a friend of mine had a sable German shepard named Cinders...she died of old age recently too.

Well...Gunther was my first choice but pixie beat me to it. I've also always liked Günter (Goontr) and Gustave. G names sound cooler when they're germanic.

Or these...some I've always liked, some I found on the internet looking:
Gus
Gawain from Athurian legend.
Goliath - good name for a big dog
Gomer - Apparently old english for good fight or famous battle. Know someone on the forums who uses this name
Grady - means noble
Griswold - I like that

See though...the thing is you have to think of something that sounds okay when you're yelling it off the back porch at 6 am. Gonad just doesn't meet that criterion;)

Noble-looking daddy, with a little hint of mischeviousness about his eyes -- hrm. Here's a few short ones:

Gem
Grant
Grey
Gate <-- someone beat me to that one :)
Grain
Gram

What's his registered name? Are you allowed to do that, or is that up to the breeder?

Wow, he is nice looking! They must be breeding some good dogs if they live 10+ years consistently...German Shepherds I would consider a large breed and larger dogs usually live less than 9 years on the average. What kind of food have you been feeding them?
