since you are not increasing the bioload by moving the same fish from 29 gallons to 55 gallons, moving the filter from the 29 to the 55 should be fine. same with the 10-29 move.
volume of water does not matter, its the amount of fish waste the filter is accustomed to handling that is the issue.
when you get your new filter for the 55, just set it up and let it run parallel for a while before adding new fish, then just add slowly.

well it is one of those 55 gal kits that come with most everything including filter.

i missed some of your question...
yeah, go ahead and move the water from the 29... it will probably reduce some of the stress of the new setup, maybe 15 gallons or so. if you move it all, its, in effect, a large water change when you fill the 55.
don't see any problem with shrimp. i've never kept any, but nothing jumps out at me.
lots of people have used play sand as a substrate with good results. just make sure you wash it well.
hope this helps.

i would still move the 29's filter onto the 55 for a while, maybe split the filter media between the two and run them both for a month or so. you could just move the 29 filter media into the 55's filter and avoid it all together. its the colonies of bacteria within the filter that matter. just make sure you don't let any of the media dry out... the beasties need oxygen or they will die off really fast.

Agreed with indiginess, just move you filter or just the filter media into the new 55 from the 29 and the same with the 10 and 29. Make sure you move your fish at the same time or the bacteria will die. No need to worry about cycleing, so enjoy the new tank.

ok here is what we planned.get it this weekend, set it up next weenend but because it is a CHRISTMAS gift she cant add the fish until the 25th.plus i am getting her a lot of goodies for it that she dont know about.now should i just let it cycle or should i add water from the 29gal.(it will be cycling for about 2 weeks without fish)whats best?and does anyone else know about mollies ,danios and gouramis with shrimp?and what kind of shrimp?
Wal*Mart Kits. LOL Ive seen those since I work there they got a nice 55gal aquarium kit comes with almost everything just make sure you dont hear not rattleing like glass cuz in some stores (like mine) the stuff gets a lil thrown around n beat up and sometimes (rarely) a broken tank will get passed the stockers n go on the shelf with us knowing its broken. Just common sense to check it but just thought Ide let you know just incase.

Like I said before, you really don't need to let it cycle. You can let the water run through the filters if you want, but don't bother cycling it. When you put fish in it, either put the filter from the 29 on there and let it run alongside the included filter for a couple of weeks, or put the filter media of the 29 in the 55 filter and leave it in there for a month and then change the media one piece at a time, or just put the filter media from the 29 directly in the tank and let it stay in there for a couple of weeks before you take it out. Which ever one you choose to do, just make sure you don't do it until you add the fish.
Don't waiste your time and money cycling when you don't have to. Just don't make sense.

Walmart kits are Marinland. The filter is going to be a penguin without the biolwheel probrably.
