i have two 2cm blue rams which i bought the other day. i was told by the fish store that they would get along no matter what the sex. i was told on this site however that same sex pairs fight!!! is this true?

i'm not sure what i have now and i'm worried... they look very similar... i was told to look at belly colour, dorsal fins and the blue spots on the black spot on their side. here it is

ram 1 - pink belly, dorsal fins are a bit shorter in the front two, blue spots invading the edges of its black side spot... but no blue spots in the centre of the black spot

ram 2 - belly is grey/brown same as body, dorsal fins are a bit shorter in the front two, blue spots invading the edges of its black side spot... but no blue spots in the centre of the black spot

what have i got??

Here's a copy of a post I put up at another site on sexing rams.....hope it helps...click on the pics to enlarge them...

I know this thread is a bit old, but there's always someone around looking for advice on sexing rams........here's a few pics of my german blue rams to help.......

This one is a juvenile male:

Both of these are young females, notice the red bellies and shorter fins when compared to the previous male:

This is my breeding pair, the female is on the left (rosey belly):

This one is a male, the female is behind him laying eggs on the log:

Basically, the females tend to be smaller....and be more spotted than the males..at least the ones I've had. If it has a rosey/pink belly it's definitely a female..but you can't always see the rosey belly...

It's hard to tell when they are smaller, the bigger they get the more noticable the differences. Males do have bigger showier fins than the females.
