Hello, I am new to this forum but not to fishkeeping (Have had freshwater tanks for the past seven years.) I am in the process of starting a new tank and I am wondering if there is a sand substrate I could buy that wont affect pH or water hardness.

Yes. You can use either silica sand (super fine) or pool filter sand ( more course). You can use muratic acid to test it, put a sample in a glass pour a bit of muratic acid on it, if it DOESN'T fizz then it's inert and safe to use.
